Public Cupping Session & Coffee Talks with Oscar Hernández from Los Nogales
Wednesday, July 23, from 11 AM @ Meron Gallery

It’s been just two months since we opened sign-ups for the first public session at Meron Gallery and now we’re putting together a new one.

This time, we’re bringing in Oscar Hernández from Los Nogales, straight from Colombia. We’ve been connected with Oscar and Los Nogales for a while now. We recently met again at World of Coffee in Geneva, where Oscar and his team hosted cuppings at our booth.

About Oscar Fernando Hernández
The youngest son of Ricardo, former naval officer turned industrial engineer, Oscar returned home in 2014 to take over Finca Los Nogales in Pitalito, Huila, after his father’s tragic death.

About the Farm

  • Location & Size: 24 ha at 1,600–2,000 m altitude in El Diamante village, near Bruselas, Pitalito.
  • Sustainable Terroir: Oscar replaced synthetic fertilizers with organic compost from coffee waste and widened planting distances to protect soil vitality and farm longevity.
  • Varieties Grown: Heritage Arabica like Típica and Caturra, resilient hybrids like Castillo and Colombia, plus exotic Gesha and Sudan Rume.
  • Advanced Processing: Lab-managed fermentations including thermal-shock (80 °C), anaerobic mosto fermentations, microbial starters, ozone washing, and careful drying — all to craft distinctive microlots.
  • Water & Waste Management: Custom wastewater treatment and recycling coffee byproducts into organic fertilizers.
  • Research Hub: The farm works as a coffee innovation center, with a team including a biochemist, microbiologist, ag engineer, and environmental manager.
  • Impact & Vision: Oscar aims to make the farm fully organic within five years, proving sustainability is possible in Huila’s climate. His mission: position Los Nogales as Colombia’s flagship specialty coffee farm and inspire other growers.
