ETHIOPIA GARGARI GUTITY | Specialty Coffee Roasted at Meron

Explore the tasting notes of a single origin specialty coffee sourced from Ethiopia freshly roasted in our coffee lab, at Meron Roastery. Here is some cool info about the coffee and the farm.

The farm/farmer

Grown at an elevation of 1,983 meters above sea level and nurtured by the fertile, red-brown soil, this coffee is a testament to the dedication of local farmers cultivating the renowned JARC varieties. Nestled alongside the Gutity river and surrounded by small plots of coffee trees, avocados, papayas, and Ethiopian bananas, this coffee reflects the essence of a family crop – a labor of love within the cozy gardens of households.

The commitment to quality is evident in every step of the process. Producers handpick only the ripest cherries, ensuring a meticulous selection. The coffee undergoes a unique anaerobic processing treatment, where full-matured red cherries are selectively handpicked and undergo a 36-hour fermentation process. The beans are then dried on African beds, basking in the direct sunlight and shade for 25 days, ensuring a nuanced flavor profile.

About the coffee

The cupping notes of Gargari Gutity coffee are a delightful dance of winey and tropical fruit flavors, providing a sensory journey through the Ethiopian terroir. What sets this coffee apart is not just its exceptional taste but also the ethical practices embraced at the Gargari Gutity washing station. The farmers are rewarded with a cash incentive for delivering quality red cherries, emphasizing a commitment to both quality and fair compensation.
